December 29 – May the Mind of Christ My Saviour

The song I’ve chosen today is an old hymn. I love music from any time period. I know I’m a grandmother, but I still love today’s songs as much as the ones I grew up with. But because I’m a senior citizen, I think I’ll share some old hymns just because you may not be familiar with them, and I think they have amazing words.

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

Again, this song is one I’ve loved since I was a teenager. Below the verse I mentioned yesterday, this was the song I also wrote in the back of my Bible – my place as a teen where I wrote things that really spoke to me then – and they still do. I love this song because it put into words what I thought was an important goal in my life, and I still believe that’s true.

Now with the pandemic, many of us are realizing what is most important in life. There are many things we are missing so much that we realize we had taken for granted before. And, there are many things we are stuck with now at home that we realize are not that important. It has really shifted our focus in life, and hopefully it has made us aware of how much we need to focus on God’s work in each of our lives.

I couldn’t find a lyric version of this song, so I want you to reread the verses as it is sung by Scott Williams.

  1. I’ve printed off the words and they will become my prayer each morning for 2021. I had never heard this song before. It is beautiful.
    Thank you Audrey♥

  2. When I was dating my future husband he was president of McGil’s IVCF . This hymn was always sung at the IV meetings as well as the social events I was invited to attend. What wonderful memories.
My pray “ May the mind of Christ, my saviour , live in me from day to day”.

  3. I sang the song this morning as I read each verse. This song was also part of my childhood memories . Rich and powerful in glorifying our Lord and Saviour. Thank you Audrey for reminding me of this beautiful song and the privilege that as a child I enjoyed worshiping my Lord and Saviour at a young age.

  4. Audrey, what a flood of great memories came in seeing and singing the words to “May the Mind of Christ” in your devotional today. 52.5 years ago, that was sung at our wedding as a commitment to the Lord, to each other and to the ministry (whatever God had in mind) He would lead us to. I had no intention of being a minister’s wife, staying in the Windsor area or living in Puce. God has a hysterical sense of humour and has been so good to me/us.
